Located on New York City’s Bond Street, this contemporary kitchen is a study in material contrast and custom finish development. Senior Designer Ellen Schott collaborated closely with the homeowner to achieve a space that balances modern restraint with an inviting, organic warmth. The design utilizes a combination of Revelane and Emerson cabinetry, providing a clean, architectural foundation that allows the kitchen’s bespoke elements to take center stage.
The project is anchored by an opulent marble waterfall island, which is paired with a walnut base specifically developed for this home. The custom stain, characterized by its soft, natural sheen and rich depth, proved so successful that it was later named Cinder, earning a place among the Bakes & Kropp signature finishes. To highlight the craftsmanship of the millwork, the island features integrated under-counter lighting that accentuates the natural wood grain, while subtle metal inlays introduce a linear, refined detail to the composition.
Beyond its aesthetic impact, the kitchen was meticulously engineered to support the client’s lifestyle through highly tailored storage. Custom drawer insets and pull-out accessories provide dedicated organization, while the integration of client-selected hardware and a matching marble backsplash ensures a unified design language. The result is a highly functional Manhattan retreat where the interplay of cool stone, warm walnut, and precise metallic accents creates a sense of enduring elegance and architectural clarity.
