Designed as the heart of a converted sneaker factory loft, this contemporary Manhattan kitchen was created for a passionate home cook and entertainer. In collaboration with Santiago Tomas of Santiago Tomas Interiors, kitchen designer Sabrina Antony of atelier bauherr., and lighting designer Staci Ruiz, Bakes & Kropp reimagined a once-compact, restrictive kitchen into an expansive, highly functional space that supports both professional-level cooking and effortless gathering.
A U-shaped layout establishes clear work zones and generous landing areas, anchored by a stone-clad peninsula that houses the sink and serves as the kitchen’s social center. Thoughtful appliance placement—including a refrigerator positioned outside the primary cooking zone—allows multiple users to move through the space with ease. Custom cabinetry from the Madison and Emerson Collections pairs light oak with a custom blue-green painted base, creating depth while maintaining a calm, architectural presence.
Highly tailored storage solutions support the client’s cooking style, from custom tray dividers and corner pull-outs to deep drawers with concealed roll-out storage. Glass-front cabinets display a collection of Japanese pottery, while black powder-coated metal frames echo the steel range hood for visual continuity. Layered lighting and purposeful stonework bring warmth and permanence to a kitchen that feels refined, welcoming, and built to endure.
