Southampton Bronze

$0.00

Located in the Water Mill hamlet of Southampton, this bespoke kitchen refresh was a personal project for interior designer Christina Magrans. Collaborating with Bakes & Kropp Senior Designer Guillaume Dupré, Magrans sought to replace a dated, beige aesthetic with a streamlined environment inspired by her background in retail design for heritage brands like Tiffany & Co. The result is a sophisticated space built around the Madison Collection, where walnut finishes and bronzy accents create a sense of warmth and understated luxury.

The layout was reimagined to transform the kitchen into a natural extension of the adjacent living area, centered on the art of hosting. A signature Bakes & Kropp L-shaped wood-top island serves as the room’s anchor, expanded to accommodate seating for five to facilitate effortless social gathering. The design’s primary focal point is a custom metalwork range hood featuring a bronze finish with delicate brass banding, a theme that carries through to corresponding metal-front drawers. This material dialogue adds an architectural weight to the space, offering a refined, metallic counterpoint to the satin walnut cabinetry.

To achieve a more open feel, the design intentionally omits upper cabinetry in favor of clean sightlines and a stone-clad range wall. This backdrop features integrated shelving to display curated mementos, grounding the kitchen with a lived-in, personal character. Despite the removal of overhead cabinets, the kitchen maintains high-performance functionality through strategic storage and zoning. A nearby room was converted into a dedicated pantry, while the cabinetry itself features specialized solutions, including a full-height "catch-all" cabinet and an integrated coffee bar with retractable doors. Finished with "jewelry-like" hardware, the space stands as a harmonious balance of professional-grade utility and refined interior design.
